Kristi’s story
I developed a love of working through the college application process with students when my own daughters went through it. I found it so rewarding to work with them through the process of self-discovery required to determine the right college fit. Each student’s college search process goes far beyond what they want to major in. The nuances matter, and they’re part of each student’s identity and story. It’s that personal story that is key to scouting a successful college fit — and preparing an application that will stand out.
Because the college application process is incredibly personal, I feel it’s important to meet each family where they’re at. Some students may already have a college list in mind and need more help with essays. Some may be just starting their search. Some may need help applying to summer internship opportunities that will contribute to a strong student resume when they are ready to apply. And some may have waited until the last minute to even begin! In all cases, we “begin with the end in mind” to determine where the student is at right now and where we need to go — and then we map out how we’ll get there.
With over 25 years as a project and program manager at one of the world’s largest IT corporations before starting as an educational consultant, I have honed a wide range of techniques to guide students efficiently through the many parts of the college application process. My own academic background includes a B.S. in Scientific and Technical Communication from the University of Washington (Seattle), as well as College Admissions Advising curriculum through the University of California Berkeley and the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). I tour colleges and attend professional training regularly, and am also an Associate Member of IECA and a member of both the National Association for College Admissions Counseling and the Western Association for College Admissions Counseling.
In addition to seeing clients in my practice, I work with students who have learning differences as part of Top College Consultants (topcollegeconsultants.com). I also help students with college applications as part of College Essay Guy’s Matchlighters Scholars Program.
It brings me great joy to give encouragement to parents and students alike and champion their efforts as we walk this transformative road together!
We’ll make sure you’re equipped with the facts you need to create a list of colleges that suit you. Then we’ll make sure it’s well balanced by admission chances (Likely, Target, Reach, Super Reach) and together decide on an application strategy (Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Decision).
Many factors come into play in the college application process and we work on all of them throughout this journey:
