Kristi’s story
I developed a love of working through the college application process with students when my own daughters went through it. I found it so rewarding to work with them through the process of self-discovery required to determine the right college fit. Both were STEM students – and both are now working on their PhDs at UCs – but, hilariously, the first question my sports-nut younger daughter would ask when we would get out of the car at a college campus was, “Which way is the stadium?” And for my older, I think she was continuously calibrating in the back of her mind how close the campus buildings came to looking like a Harry Potter movie set!
Each student’s college search process goes far beyond what they want to major in. These kinds of nuances matter, and they’re part of each student’s identity and story. It’s that personal story that is key to scouting a successful college fit — and preparing an application that will stand out.
Because the college application process is incredibly personal, I feel it’s important to meet each family where they’re at. Some students may already have a college list in mind and need more help with essays. Some may be just starting their search. Some may need help researching and applying to summer internship opportunities that will contribute to a strong student resume when they are ready to apply. And some may have waited until the last minute to even begin! In all cases, we “begin with the end in mind” to determine where the student is at right now and where we need to go — and then we roadmap how we’ll get there together.
My own academic background includes a B.S. in Scientific and Technical Communication from the University of Washington (Seattle), as well as College Admissions Advising curriculum through the University of California Berkeley and the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). In a career spanning more than 25 years as a project manager at one of the world’s largest IT companies, I honed a wide range of skills that can help students stay on track with the many moving parts of this process.
We’ll make sure you’re equipped with the facts you need to create a list of colleges that suit you. Then we’ll make sure it’s well balanced by admission chances (Likely, Target, Reach, Super Reach) and together decide on an application strategy (Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Decision).
